Since time immemorial, human beings have been confronted with the problem of unwanted hair loss thus forcing individuals and professionals alike to try different tactics in a bid to combat hair loss. Hair just like all other living organisms reduce their growth rate in a timely manner and that explains why hair loss problems are more prevalent in older people as opposed to the younger generations. This problems having proved to be so common has led to the invention of different methods of trying to propagate hair growth where the natural hair has failed to sprout at the individuals anticipated pace.

Before we indulge into the various methods used to solve hair loss problems, let’s have a short glance at the common causes of hair loss in human beings. The main cause of hair loss is age; other causes may include the use of some medicines, certain illnesses, and hormonal imbalance among others. Just like the causes, the treatment methods also vary depending on the cause, while others may prefer the use of various vitamin supplements; others opt for more radical methods which may include the use of hair plugs among other known methods.

One of the most widely used methods to combat hair loss especially in the first and second world countries is the use of surgery to freshly initiate hair growth on affected surfaces. This is commonly referred to as hair plug surgery and it entails the removal of skin with live hair follicles from one part of the body medically referred to as the donor site to another balding spot on the same person’s body; this part is referred to as the recipient site.

History of Hair Plugs

The use of surgery dates back to the early 19th century with the first traces of modern transplants dating back to as early as 1930. This is documented as the year the Japanese surgeons started using modern transplant techniques to replace hair on damaged eye brows by the use of small grafts and follicular unit grafts. Since this time, the world’s dermatologists have tried to improve the art by trying to further on the earlier method by introducing follicular unit transplantation

With the world paying more attention to beauty sometimes even at the expense of health, many people have opted for hair plugs to improve their physical features regardless of the pain or costs involved. The hair plug craze has struck both men and women alike with both tacking this treatment to curb hair loss. It is therefore important to describe what this process entails for the sake of informing any interested persons.

Factors to Consider

Before taking a hair plug surgery, it is important to visit your doctor for a discussion on the same. Through this briefing you should be able to understand the number of grafts that could be successfully transplanted on your scalp, how many sessions this may need and the approximate cost. You should also know that although this surgery is often carried out on outpatient basis, it ordinarily takes at least more than a month to completely heal during which period you might experience lots of headaches and other pains which might detract you from your daily activities. It is very important to understand that this procedure actually involves physically making incisions on ones scalp before tacking skin containing hair follicles and breaking the follicles into smaller particles and inserting them into the incisions already created

How Much Does The Surgery Cost?

The cost of having the surgery varies from country to country and also depends on the amount of surface to be covered as well as the technique to be used. While this surgery costs quite a lot 0of money in some countries, the price may differ a great deal in other countries. In the US, this operations may cost anywhere between US$4 to US$ 5 per graft while in countries like India the same operation may cost any where bellow US$1.5. Each session may consist of between 1500 to 4000 grafts; in addition to these costs one should also consider the cost o the after care since this surgery does not heal at once. There is not much discrepancy in the cost of the surgery across the gender divide. This means that hair plugs for men and hair plugs for women will cost the same as long as the other details remain constant. Although most people understand the hassles involved, they still go ahead and take the surgery however we ma ask whether the results are permanent and satisfactory since some people argue that the results are only satisfactory until such a time that you take a shave and the hair starts growing at different rates making your scalp to look rather unusual. All in all it would make more sense if we could resort to the use of food supplements to enhance hair growth rather than go for these transplants as they cost a fortune and the procedure too hectic.
